Anyone who has ever loved a dog even at least once in their lives would know that dogs are more than just pets. They’re our family, our best friends, our most loyal companions. They love us unconditionally and without judgment, and sometimes, even better than any other human being. It’s no surprise then, to discover that there is a special place dedicated to dogs up in the mountains. The Dog Chapel is located at the Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.
It was built by Stephen Huneck, artist and owner of Dog Mountain, a 150-acre open dog park featuring the chapel, plus a gallery and hiking trails. It’s definitely no ordinary dog park. It’s a place of pilgrimage and reverence for dog lovers and their canine companions, where they can bask in nature and bond together outdoors while enjoying the mountain landscape. For most people who visit, it’s a special place they can honor the memories of dogs long gone, by leaving messages or photos. Vistors come not just from all over the country, but from outside America as well.
